January Lyrics
1.Corazon
by the school, on the street
you were dropped off with a sign
"this piano is free"
you didn't look free to me
cast aside, obsolete
since they cancelled music class
you've been a refugee
but now i'll give you a home, corozon
so i pushed, and i heaved
but your weight bore down like I could not believe
had you accepted defeat
til the crowd, gathered 'round
put away their going's on and hunkered down
and they were cheering you on, corazon(repeat)
cheering you on, corazon(repeat)
and the expert, with his tools
said to bring it up to pitch would snap the sucker in two
I guess we're tuning to you
so I pulled up a seat and I sweat I felt a pulse beneath your keys
to urge your hammers along, corazon
hammer along, corazon(repeat)
I was caught, I was stuck
and my thoughts combined and deepened in the rut
until your first chord struck
now I search, I'm unsure
but my god you've given me another chance to learn
come on and teach me your songs, corazon
teach me your songs, corazon(repeat)
2.The Bullet and Big D
On monday dealey plaza fills
with people on the way
to the court houses and meeting rooms
but me, I'm free today
And I traced the path the motorcade
took back in sixty-three
past the grassy knoll into the book depository
they put in a museum where they say the shots were fired
it's closed today but I don't mind
I'm already getting tired
There's photographs and headlines
and diagrams of the street
they're showing the zapruder film
it's always on repeat
last night I dreamt I was the bullet
from frame 313
the one that scattered his head around the limosine
I was right there for his final thoughts, of john-john and jackie
and oh my God Big D
Back then everybody worried further to the south
missles screamed across Miami, trail and fall out
Teachers drilled their students hiding underneath their desks
To fear the twitchy trigger finger, of old Krushchev
but Cuba couldn't kill nobody, not like Dallas could
when I was growing up there, I understood
Remember when I'd pick you up
outside your mothers house?
the two of you were fighting, and we promised we'd get out
out far from the narrowness and the confines and the doubt
we'd leave behind all that we know and never turn around
cut the strings and tear away from all that kept us down
and oh my god big D
Now I fly out of Laguardia, or out of JFK
and I land at DFW and I drive down LBJ
and the houses and the shopping centers, don't make me afraid
Why they ever did, it's hard now to explain
But you, you never really left, for you was it the same?
and oh my god Big D
November 22nd I was at the kitchen sink
Just like everyone remembers where they were in `63
the shudder that shot through me with that unexpexted call
I locked the bathroom door and hit my fist against the wall
I should of come to rescue you, I should have should have yes
What happened in the past ten years, I coulda guessed
Remember when I w'd carry you, and lay you in your bed
and promised to take care of you, but I just left instead
Last night I dreamt I was the pills you swallowed down
I tried to come back up, but you wouldn't let me out
and I couldn't help but wonder, did think of me?
and oh my god big D
3.the rabbit
it takes just one look at my hands
says "kid your no good in a fight"
you can swing just as hard as you can
but the odds are against you alright
I can see how they're drawing you in
I can see how the arguement goes
but it's time to plan out your houdini escape
cause the windows and doors are all closed
you can walk or you can cab it
or run just like a rabbit
you're sticking to your habbits through thick and thin
you can sway, you can swagger
there's poison on the dagger
a nick'll make you stagger
the fix is in
two black eyes later i'm down
but I find myself standing again
and I get him to stay on the ground
saying kid there's no chance you can win
I've heard this whole story before
some fool tries to challenge the thrown
and I think I recall that it didn't end well
but I've got to find out on my own
you can walk or you can cab it
or run just like a rabbit
you're sticking to your habbits through thick and thin
you can sway, you can swagger
there's poison on the dagger
a nick'll make you stagger
the fix is in
honey I heard that you drowned
or at least that you gave it shot
and maybe I came in here seeking revenge
but what it was for, I forgot
4.Making friends
Making friends is so damn easy
All you handsome devils
Oh, what a congragration you make
Carry on with your revels
Go on and eat your birthday cake
But I, got so much frustration
its causing me great physical pain
I try to make conversation
it's like trying to stop a train
Making friends is so damn easy
Smile and act real pleasing
Nobody known, nobody can tell
we do it so well, we're going to Hell
I drove across this great nation
Three times, three times at least
I don't know what I was chasing
but I think it got the best of me
When your, wasted days are behind you
pounding out your heels
I'll be right there to remind you
How lucky you're supposed to feel
Making friends is so damn easy
Smile and act real pleasing
Nobody known, nobody can tell
we do it so well, we're going to Hell
Now, you can knock them dead, baby
You can be the bell of the ball
the music's driving me crazy
I'm going out into the hall
Making friends is so damn easy
Smile and act real pleasing
Nobody known, nobody can tell
we do it so well, we're going to Hell
