i guess what i'm saying is that pitchfork wrote a review aimed at fans of the band, not at giving a new listener something to use as a gauge for whether or not they will like this album. and that, to me, is a poor choice.


I agree and don't agree. Last time I interviewed Justin (March) he said they didn't really look at the EPs as demos. But I know what you mean with that last paragraph. People have asked me what I think about the new Bishop Allen and I launch into a five minute speech about how if they'd recorded it two years ago, it would have been better but it's still really good. I usually just start mumbling and say "just buy it."
