I've always wanted to transcribe "Come Clean," as it was, so I tried... there sure was a lot of indestinguishability, so be warned... cuz a lot of what I typed didn't make a bit of sense:

Drove my car down to the mall
Make my way to ??
She's a linger, out of butter, on a table (???)

Draw the curtains, lock the door
Pick your clothes up off the foor
Down alone there, every night, at a table

Well the years have been unkind
Like a winter clementine
We can only come of age in the cold

What small comfort we might take
That we've both been born to break
Keeps us humble, keeps us honest, but bold

And they laugh and they sing and they dance up the dance of a wise man
And alone in the dark you don't know what their secrets mean
And I promise I know that the poison will surely pass through you
If you scrub and you wash then eventually you will come clean

Well I talked to her old man
And he plays just calistan (?)
He said well one day, we all gotta learn how to be alone

Even spenses in the yard
Drives a whale(?), big American car
Won't you meet him (?), Wednesday night some home

Well I know about a place to meet
At this bar they call Benefit Street
We don't worry 'bout nobody overhearin'

What small comfort we might take
That we've both been born to break
Leaves us humble, leaves us honest, and God-fearin'

chorus x 4

______

It should also be noted that I went back to my Atlanta bootlegs and found the lyrics were even more differentlike... so this is a great revision process. The one line that stays throughout is the "years have been unkind like a winter clementine" line, which is quite necessary, of course... that and the chorus, also... but all in all, I still think "Benefit Street" is my favorite version. Oh how good this song is.
