I'm not 100% sure, but I've had bourbon/soda drinks all the time (except, where I'm from, we call soda "pop"). "Hey, can I get a can of pop?" "I'll have a hamburger, fries, and some pop."

Also, I have no idea if he's saying "bold" or "bored". "bored" rhymes more, but "bold" makes more sense because that's what alcohol does.
