Apple recommends that you burn your purchased music to a CD to back it up. You can also then re-rip it to MP3 format which is usable just about anywhere else. It seems like a reasonable solution given the utter convenience of iTunes. I would rather purchase music, support the artists (however little of the money they see), and go through that small inconvenience than try to hunt stuff down over P2P networks...

But I've been buying the monthly EPs too.
