Rent isn't bad in Homer, but finding a decent job can be. Being a town small enough to know that the owner of Land's End is a pompous bastard also means that its a town small enough that there aren't always enough jobs to go around. Most people just show up with enough money to pitch a tent on the spit, then try to find a place to work. You usually can if you don't mind a crappy job. If you're serious about going back, homernews.com has online classifieds with jobs and cheapish places to stay.
And a job on a boat is a room and board job... you just won't be in Homer much ;-).
An unrelated note: what software do you use to patch up your photos? I've found photoshop support for panoramas to be less than perfect, if you have something with more control over the area that is blended together from picture to picture, I'd love to know about it.
